According to the annual progress report of The Rose Review into female entrepreneurship, female-only teams set up over 150,000 new businesses in 2022, representing 20% of all incorporations in the UK. This figure is up by 6,332 compared to the previous year, while the percentage of all-women founders in new companies has risen to 20%, compared with 16.7% in 2018.

Young Women Aged 16-to-25-Years-Old the Most Active Entrepreneurs

The report also reveals that the biggest increase in all-women founders comes from young women aged 16 to 25 years old, who established 17,489 businesses last year, up from only 785 in 2018. The report highlights the resilience and entrepreneurialism of female founders in creating more businesses than ever before.

The Rose Review

The Rose Review is a UK government-backed review into female entrepreneurship led by Dame Alison Rose, CEO of NatWest Group. It was launched by the Treasury in 2019, and its goal is to improve access to finance and business support for female entrepreneurs. The review has pledged to create three million places for women to access business support over the next three years.

Investing in Women Code

The Investing in Women Code is an initiative that encourages financial institutions to adopt best practices that benefit female entrepreneurs and share data on their performance with the government. A total of 190 financial services institutions have signed the code, representing over £1tr in assets under management. The latest signatories include the savings and investment company M&G, lender Funding Circle, and technology venture capital firm IQ Capital.

The Rose Review also aims to increase the pool of female angel investors from 14% to 30% of the total number of UK angels by 2030 through the Women Angel Investment Taskforce, which includes the Women Backing Women campaign.
