HIEC’s Career Lab, an innovation center she developed, offers students hands-on opportunities to explore in-demand careers, fostering clarity and confidence in their decision-making. Hoey also initiated HIEC’s first podcast, “Parents as Career Coaches,” to inspire meaningful career exploration discussions between parents and youth.
Revolutionizing Perceptions of Skilled Trades
In 1999, Hoey identified a critical gap in career education surrounding skilled trades and addressed it by launching ApprenticeSearch.com. This online platform bridges the gap between job seekers and employers in skilled trades, becoming a vital national resource. Notably, 47% of its users identify as members of equity-denied groups, advancing inclusivity within the skilled trades sector.

She serves as a Founding Member of the Ministry of Education Council for Experiential Learning and advises multiple organizations, including the Labour Market Information Council and the Ontario Business Education Partnership.
