Twitter, one of the most popular social media platforms in the world, experienced technical glitches for over an hour on Monday, with users reporting difficulty in accessing links, logging in, and loading images. The company said that an internal change had led to “unintended consequences,” causing certain parts of the site to malfunction. The issue was resolved shortly after 10 a.m. Pacific time.

Downdetector, a platform that monitors online outages, reported that users began encountering difficulties just before noon U.S. Eastern time, with some unable to view the images that others had posted. The outage was also noted by internet access watchdog NetBlocks, which said that it was affecting many users internationally.

Twitter in Recent Months

Twitter has seen a rise in technical glitches and instability in recent months after a sharp reduction in staff by Elon Musk. Last month, users were unable to send tweets due to a bug. This situation has led to concern among some experts that Twitter may be at increased risk of malfunctioning in the future, particularly if Musk makes significant changes to the platform without much off-platform testing.

Twitter Responds to the Outage

After the outage on Monday, Twitter tweeted that it had resolved the problem, but did not provide further details. Elon Musk also commented on the situation, describing the platform as “brittle” and indicating that the problem would be fixed shortly.

One of the consequences of the outage was the difficulty faced by users trying to access Twitter’s help page, which showed an error message stating, “Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint,” and provided a link to a software developer page that was also not functioning.
